Jan 2023 fishing report for New Smyrna and Mosquito lagoon

New Smyrna beach and Mosquito Lagoon

Happy New Year and welcome these 80 degree temps!! The Christmas week cold front has turned the water gin clear making for the best sight fishing for redfish, black drum, and big sea trout amazing!!

Despite two back to back Hurricanes New Smyrna beach and its beaches restaurants and accommodations are open!!!!!  and fishing is really good!!                                                        Winter is trying to make an appearance here in Florida.

As it does the wate temps are dropping clearing up the water making some spectacular sight fishing in the Mosquito lagoon.

Redfish are on shorelines belly crawling looking for a bite to eat, a perfectly placed cast to these crawlers is an almost immediate bite!

Preferred baits are shrimp live or artificial baits are the ticket.

Sea trout are sitting in sand depressions soaking up the sun and waiting for a bite to eat, work the pot holes and sunny shorelines with mullet or shrimp live or artifice and you'll have a blast!

Snook are eating well too, I'm finding them sunning themselves in various snook spots.

Black drum are abundant and excellent table fair!!

If you are looking for a fishing guide in New Smyrna give Capt  Tony a call or text to book the fishing trip of a lifetime.
